At Christmas 1983, a villa in the woods outside Norrköping is shaken by a violent fight, and a secret comes out from a mother. A boy named Andrev learns that his father is not his father. The real one lives in a land far away and has shoulder-length hair. Like an Indian, says the mother, gesturing to her elbow for the boy to understand. The boy is buzzing because it’s the best thing he’s ever heard. It feels like he is the boy in a book about a boy who learns that his father is the king of a magical land and that a genie will come to take him there. But there will be no spirits, only new fathers who are not his.
